JAMES CULLEN

What is your favorite rig to shoot on?

I shoot on a Nikon D750. My favorite lens is a 50mm f/1.4 prime. I also use a Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 quite a bit.

What are your goals as a photographer?

I would like to publish a book of photography at some point.

What is your favorite thing about photography?

The ability to capture a moment in time, with no prologue or epilogue. The viewer has to discern the story, to make inferences. I like stopping time I guess.

What is your least favorite thing?

When you think you have the perfect shot and for whatever reason can’t get it right… soft focus, poor exposure, bad composition.

What advice do you have for other photographers?

Shoot what inspires you. I’m sure that is what everyone answers, but in general you’ll make better images if you are passionate about them. But you should still practice photographing everything. Work relentlessly on technique. It pays off.
