CLOSE ENCOUNTERS

Aren’t you tired of swiping in the hopes of running into a specific someone you have an existing, lingering curiosity about? Here’s your chance to be brave—to take the active route instead of the passive one. Let’s connect again. (Entries may be minimally edited for clarity.)

Sheepish at AMC
We were walking to our cars at the AMC Palace movie theater in Elmwood at the same time. I was by myself, you were with a friend (I hope) wearing a pageboy hat. I imagine we both had just seen The Sheep Detectives because you were wearing lamb ears and looked super cute. We caught each other’s eye a few times, even as we got into our cars, which were conveniently parked right next to each other. Maybe we could join each other’s flock?

Peter Pan Gender Reversal
I was saying the other night that every man in this city wants to be Peter Pan and every woman wants to be Wendy. But I realized that’s an unfair oversimplification: sometimes the genders are reversed.

Friday Night Food Delivery
I delivered your food on a rainy Friday night. You answered the door still in your hospital gown, and mentioned you’d just gotten out after 10 days. We chatted briefly about the rain, and the next day you added an extra $5 tip. I thought you were handsome, but that it would be inappropriate to flirt given your state and that I was on the job. I hope your recovery goes as smoothly as it can, and I really appreciate the extra tip.

Eavesdropping at Levee Baking Co.
I was standing in front of you (pretty, petite) and who I presume is/was your boyfriend (tall, looks like he has strong opinions about DFA Records) at Levee Baking Co. on Mother’s Day morning. The wait was long, so I couldn’t help but overhear snippets of your conversation. It was really sad and infuriating to hear him be so condescending and dismissive toward you, especially when you brought up being part of the Loyola Law Review (a huge accomplishment, by the way, congratulations!). I have no idea what your situation is actually like, but from the perspective of a stranger who has dealt with many such men before, you truly deserve so much better and I wish you all the very best.

3 a.m. Pool at Bud Rips
My friend and I played you in pool around 3 a.m. Sunday Morning (5/24) at Bud Rips. You were wearing a black dress and were there with a guy (who u seemed pretty over), so I didn’t give you my number. Your eyes said you wanted it though, and the regret is hitting hard today so here l am [number redacted—AG appreciates the effort but we’re not gonna broadcast phone numbers. If you think this message pertains to you and want to reach out, get in touch with us. —Ed.]
