The World takes the lead, offering her unbridled expressions of a liberated body. Over generations we have lost touch with the state of mind that navigated sovereignty as a natural way of being. The experience of finite time and the physical body are entirely dependent on the burdens and expectations placed on them. The World asks us: What would be different about our perceptions of self in a fully autonomous society? Our time would be measured by a criteria unrelated to the stock market. Social status doled out according to the ability of the body or its specific appearance would have no bearing on our movements. The World says: Take this thought process deep into your intimate lives and actively attempt to move and think and feel as you would in collective liberation. We are thoroughly conditioned to internalize the loathing our economic culture projects on us and this breeds varieties of fascistic beliefs that operate as personal preferences so integral to the existence of an individual that suggestions to change are perceived as life threatening. The World card appears as more than an invitation to explore, but as an omen of cultural perception shift that she strenuously suggests we guide ourselves through with care and intention.

The Hierophant joins the lineup to assist us with those beliefs that are difficult to change even when we know they are incorrect. When we are working with The Hierophant as our guide through our most myopic points of view, direct confrontation with the matter that needs to change is the best course. The Hierophant is good at many things and one of those things is a less emotional and psychological approach to altering behavior and attitude. The Hierophant can teach us how to build a belief system that relies on truth and equity to discern action. He tells us to consider that maybe a belief so deep won’t ever really change. The Hierophant wants to sit with us in the discomfort inherent to realizing we don’t totally control who we are but we do control how we engage. Sometimes, in order to operate authentically, we must do battle with our wrong beliefs and this means really putting the effort in to overcome ourselves. What matters—and this is central to The Hierophant’s purpose—is that we do not try to justify ourselves simply because we cannot change. Facing ourselves with fierce but supportive honesty right now is everything.
